Founded in 2003 by Dr. Gerald Grubbs, Board-certified Interventional Radiologist. Leading up to the establishment of SIR, Dr. Grubbs engaged in considerable research to ensure that SIR would be the premier facility on Florida’s West Coast for unparalleled patient experience. As the founder and medical leader of SIR, Dr. Grubbs sets high standards for himself and his staff to provide exceptional clinical quality, cost-efficiency, and a high level of patient satisfaction.

"THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to you, Dr. Grubbs, and your wonderful team. Amazing care (plus patience with my anxiety) and the results made me feel normal again and even better than before!"

Cancer Diagnosis and Cancer Treatments Available at our Medical Center

Interventional radiology treats a wide range of conditions, and the field is constantly expanding. At SIR, Dr. Grubbs and his team are committed to learning and growing in this dynamic environment in an effort to serve patients with a variety of health issues.

Current services offered at SIR include the categories listed below. Please go to the individual pages for more detail and explanation of these and other services.

Cancer Diagnosis and Treatments. An estimated one million people in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer each year. There are more than 100 known types of cancer, many of which can be treated and forced into submission with the right type of treatment. All cancers begin when normal cells within the body become damaged and grow out of control to form new, abnormal cells that often invade or impact other tissues. When normal cells are damaged, the cells either repair the damage or die off. However, cancer cells do not repair or die off.

Prostate Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment. The new method is a diagnostic prostate MRI called multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI). With this system, physicians first perform an MRI to determine if a prostate tumor actually exists. If the MRI indicates a need, several samples are taken of the specific site for biopsy, eliminating the need for multiple, painful biopsies.

Lung Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment. SIR-Florida promotes and offers lung cancer screening as a way in which to reduce the number of deaths caused by this disease. Lung cancer affects both men and women and is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. Smokers have the highest risk for lung cancer, and the risk increases with the length of time and number of cigarettes smoked. Non-smokers can also get the disease, and the American Cancer Society reports that about 20% of those who die from lung cancer have never been smokers.

Liver Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment. One of SIR-Florida’s specialties is diagnosis and treatment of liver cancer, a cancer that originates in the liver itself. If a cancer originates in another part of the body and spreads (metastasizes) to the liver, it is not known as liver cancer but is referred to by the organ of origin. There are several types of liver cancer, the most common being hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The incidence of HCC has been rising since the turn of the century and is now one of the leading causes of death by cancer in the U.S.

Diagnostic Scanning and Screening. A CT Scan, also known as “computed tomography scan”, makes use of computer-processed combinations of many X-ray measurements taken from different angles to produce cross-sectional (tomographic) images (virtual "slices") of specific areas of a scanned object, allowing the user to see inside the object without cutting.

Pain Management. At SIR we understand how difficult living with pain can be. That’s why our philosophy is to treat the whole person and to include family in every step of the process, from providing critical information to maximizing patient comfort during and after treatment for pain. We treat Back Pain, Chronic Pain, Migraines and Spinal Fractures.

Vascular Procedures and Dialysis. Sarasota Interventional Radiology is Florida’s premier Vascular Treatment Center. SIR has revolutionized minimally invasive surgery in Florida and our belief is that we offer many advantages over other diagnostic clinics and even hospitals. Many patients receive their Dialysis Therapy and Dialysis Treatment at SIR’s state of the art dialysis center.

Peptide Medicine and Peptide Therapy. At Sarasota Interventional Radiology (SIR), Dr. Gerald E. Grubbs is at the forefront of the exciting new realm of peptide therapy. With ever-increasing evidence and research to support the use of peptides to treat a wide variety of medical and physical conditions, Dr. Grubbs has the knowledge to understand exactly how peptides are used effectively and safely.

Uterine Fibroids. Uterine fibroids are noncancerous tumors that grow in or on the uterus. Fibroid tumors affect approximately 20-40% of women over age 35 and are much more prevalent among African-American women. Fibroids can range from the size of a golf ball to the size of a cantaloupe.

GI & GU. The gastrointestinal tract (GI tract) houses many important organs that play an essential role in the digestion of food. These organs include the mouth, esophagus, liver, stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, small intestine, and large intestine. The rectum and anus, located within the large intestine, are included in the GI tract. The genitourinary tract (GU tract) is comprised of the urinary and reproductive organs. These organs include the kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, and male reproductive organs.

Advanced Technology With A Human Touch – Unparalleled Treatment With An Eye On Patient Cost Savings

Selection of a facility for your procedure is a personal decision, one that you should discuss with your ordering physician but also one that is ultimately yours to make. Whether it’s a biopsy or any interventional procedure, you may have your procedure at the facility of your choice. We promptly report the results of your procedure to your ordering physician to share with you.

At SIR, we have revolutionized minimally invasive surgery in Florida, and we believe that SIR offers many advantages over other diagnostic clinics and even hospitals. SIR’s advantage:

  • Advanced technology to provide the ultimate imaging experience. Our state-of-the-art equipment is carefully selected to maximize patient safety and comfort.
  • Unparalleled diagnosis and treatment using the latest approved minimally invasive procedures rather than traditional open surgery. These procedures offer patients shortened recovery time, fewer risks and complications, and less pain than traditional surgery.
  • Physician expertise and experienced technical staff. Our physicians and technicians are trained in the latest diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. Our board-certified anesthesiologists take care of your individual sedation needs, so you won’t feel or remember a thing about your procedure.
  • Significant cost savings compared to charges at local hospitals. The cost savings of identical procedures done on an outpatient basis at all the local hospitals is four to six times greater than at SIR. For example, your obligation to pay the deductible for a liver biopsy performed at SIR is less than $1000, as compared to $4000 to $6000 at a local hospital. Which deductible would you rather pay!

"I have been in many medical facilities and hospitals in my 82 years, but never have I been treated better than at SIR. Thank you, and your entire staff is to be commended."
